Electives will be chosen by the end of first week of school. All students will participate in Theatre and Film concepts and performancing thinking through our arts integrated programs, where I co-teach will other teachers throughout the year.
Participation in arts classes is an integral part of the TCEA curriculum. All students are expected to be present and participate in these classes. Attendance is taken for each arts course in addition to the daily school attendance. Participation and regular attendance is vital to student success in the arts courses. Excessive absences/early check-outs from art courses will be reported to administration and may impact the student's grade. Please see the Student and Parent Handbook for the full TCEA attendance policy.
Communication Policy Classroom core teachers manage ClassDojo set-up with parents, and I am able to connect to you through their ClassDojo and email: firstname.lastname@example.org. ClassDojo is my primary means of communication through the messenger system. My Dojo notification hours are from 7:30am-4pm. My Dojo Quiet Hours start at 4pm daily and on the weekend/non-school days. I will response to messages withing a 48 hour response - or the following school day if Friday/Holiday (per the school-wide communication policy.) . I enjoy connecting with you through ClassDojo! Please contact me in advance to schedule an appointment to meet in person.
No Rescue Policy The No Rescue Policy from the TCEA Student Handbook applies for all arts courses. Grading Policy & Information: Click Here
Homework Policy - Homework may be assigned as needed to reinforce skills and concepts, but only in specific instances where homework will support that skill - or in cases where students did not complete their assigned work in-class. - Students will record any assignments, and pending tests, performances and events in their planner. - If homework/study guide is assigned, I will do my best to communicate with the classroom teacher, so this information can be included in classroom communication that they send home, and to parents through Class Dojo. - Homework will be due by a specific due date, but may be submitted early to the my mailbox at the receptionist desk. - Late Homework: may be accepted for partial credit on a case-by-case basis.

Expectations - All TCEA expectations, procedures and guidelines for Respectful, Responsible and Resourceful Chameleons apply to Theatre and Film. - Theatre and Film will use ClassDojo, connected to your student's classroom teacher to communication behavior. Follow instructions from your classroom teacher to use ClassDojo. The Arts Team will be connected automatically. - If you do not not have access to ClassDojo, please contact me through written communication in the student planner. Please consider using ClassDojo, as it is a valuable tool in allowing me to communicate with you.
Flex Seating & Assigned Seating: Students in Theatre and Film are able to take advantage of flexible seating options, based on research that many student find flex seating more comfortable . However, some students may find this overstimulating or find it makes it difficult to concentrate or not distract others. As part of Phase 1 intervention, students may be assigned seating if deemed needed for success. Intervention seating may take place for specific assignment if a student needs more support.
Theatre and Film courses will follow the school PBIS policy: Within the Theatre and Film Studio, under the school-wide PBIS system, I practice a tiered intervention system and positive reinforcement.
Theatre and Film Intervention Procedures PHASE 1: Students will have the opportunity to self-correct in-class issues during Phase 1 through positive reinforcement, reminders of policy, verbal warning, redirection, and/or loss of 1-2 DojoPoints, dependent on action/response. Students may also be assigned a seat rather than flex seating if deemed needed for success in class. PHASE 2: Students who do not respond to Phase 1 (or if the severity of the action warrants it immediately) will result in Chill-out Time with a time to reflect on their behavior through a drawn or written reflection. This reflection helps student understand why they are in Chill-out time and what needs to be corrected. I also explain to students, at the appropriate development level, reasons for chill-time and what must be done to improve. It is vital that the student is able to explain why they were in Chill-Out Time and what they will do for improvement of the behavior. I will also contact the parent via ClassDojo and deduct -3 "Chill-Out Time Required" ClassDojo Points. PHASE 3: Students who have not responded to Phase 1 or 2 (or if the severity of the action warrants it immediately), parents will be contacted for a possible conference. PHASE 4: Administrative Referral.
Note: Cheating, threats, lying, stealing, foul language, and actions that injure or endanger others/self are never tolerated and are considered severe. These actions may result in immediate referral to administration and appropriate support staff within the school-wide PBIS system.
